Hello,
Are there a lot of med surg nurses out there? Med surg is its own specialty in my own opinion and it takes a special nurse to stick with it. I love med surg nursing but want to give circulating nursing a try in the OR and I really want to teach. The facility I work in doesn't have a psych facility so we get a lot of mentally unstable patients and I find it very difficult to deal with these patients sometimes. I think that if med surg nurses have to take care of psychiatric patients then they should give us some training because, honestly, what we learned about psychiatric nursing in nursing school is long gone. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Am I crazy to expect some sort of guidance in my practice? I am really wondering if other hospitals have this same issue? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Cindy
